It's the last day of 2005, guess it's time for me to take stock of my life in the past 12 mths.
The first 6 mths of the year...
Probably the most fulfilling 6 mths that i've had in recent years...since i had the freedom of time to work and do whatever that i deemed fit. Learnt how to drive, experienced the joys and the pains of being a teacher; and at the same time getting a preview of what working life is like in the real and nasty world. Oh and of course, the very memorable getaway to Bintan with my really special group of friends. The only major pain in the 6 mths was perhaps the release of my A lvl results, which saw me breaking down in disappointment and anxiety about my immediate prospects of getting into the U. My eventual bittersweet entry into NUS was, and still is, an indication that the divine powers of the Gods and Goddesses above DO exist.
2nd half of the year...
Less idyllic, but nonetheless exciting and full of anxiety. Most of the time. What with the entire brand-new experience of finally studying in the U, getting to know new people, taking a stab at stardom, being traumatised by the forever-fark, fark, farking horrible bidding system(i know i promised not to cuss, but let this be my last public attempt of the year) and of course, mugging like there's no tomorrow for the tests and exams. Oh, and not to forget the very minor episode of my secret clubbing escapades. Sadly however, at press time, i found out i've been unsuccessful in bidding for 2 of my modules for Semester 2. One of which is Psych, by the way. Feeling really down in the dumps right now as im typing.
Reflections, thoughts, and what have i...
like any other year, i've got tons of woulda, shoulda and coulda's. Words which i never said 'coz i never had the courage to AND those i've said which would have been better if left unsaid; regretful things i've done that i know i never should have AND things that i should have done but i never did. To engage in total recall would probably bring about more misery than i already have now. So there.
On an optimistic note, however, i've gotta admit that Lady Luck had been kind to me on several occasions. And to be fair to myself, i've also fulfilled a few of my 2004 resolutions. Oh...and by virtue of my unsuccessful bidding attempt, i've truly understood that it does not pay to be greedy - to have the cake and try to eat it too.
The only thing that's left to fathom would be the pretty fluctua-tious personality of mine this yr. Seen myself switch from being lively and cheerful to a quiet, shy and anti-social person and back; from being approachable and friendly one moment, and temperamental and angry the next. I really suspect that im mentally unsound sometimes (haha). Gotta work on my temper control. Even more importantly, to get a hold on myself when bad things happen to me.
Ah well, here's my lot for 2005. Good or bad? Gee, i really dont know. Counting my blessings will be my personal mantra i guess.
Goodbye, 2005!
Hello 2006! *gulpz*
Thurday 29th December
Met up with my cousin Cynthia for dinner - haven't seen her for so so so long a time. REally miss all the happy times all of us had when she was still living at my house. Updated each other a great deal over dinner at Cartel...followed by delicious chocolate fondue at Coffee Club! She was really sweet about it all...even when talking abt THE sensitive issue. After the wonderful time, she was even kind enough to drive me to Bedok to meet Jer n co. for midnight fishing.
Me......going FISHING??
Yesyes...Wanling the conwoman tricked me into agreeing to go for a chalet - which found myself at Pasir Ris beach trying to fish at 2am. Not that i hated it. Far from it in fact, coz she Jer n Pear are really great company! (i mean, how can i not be having fun with the clown wanling around??) Heehee...and luckily i was smart enough to bring the picnic mat, so we cld have somewhere to sit or sleep. OR star-gaze on our backs out there on the breakwaters, with the wind in your face. REally really shiok i tell ya- it's a refreshing change from going to town all the time. In fact just sitting down there, watching the waves roll by while we talked was a wonderful feeling already - the only spoiler was that i caught a cold after the night out.
after that we headed back to Jer's to have breakfast and bid for our modules. AND to catch up on our beauty sleep before heading home.
Im nursing a runny nose right now:(
Sat 24 December 2005
A pretty good Xmas eve i had. Went to Ding Tai Fung for dinner with my family! VERY, VERY GOOD dinner. Fried rice (3 different types), dumplings... Complete with the xiao long bao! But pity the latter wasnt as good as Mayim's or C-Jade's:(
After dinner i went off to Orchard at arnd 10 to meet Edwin, and Wanling as well to pass her her Xmas gift. Thought my parents were a tad disappointed i left tho...coz its my first time counting down without them. And really damned sorry for leaving Gine alone. (oh ya...and my brother who was unfortunately pang-sehed by the girl he dated out on Xmas eve. Stoopid girl u dont know wadcha missin'!)
The streets were sardine-packed at Orchard! Kaoz...practically crawled my way to Heeren from Orchard station and not to mention having foam sprayed on me by some of the more rowdy ppl - which i later bought to retaliate. wahaha! But then later on i went overboard with it la. Shan't go into details. Met up with Jiahui, Hua Cheng and Zhengwen - who left abt 15mins later. The rest of us went on to Chijmes to pub. Had a lil bit of vodka before i cabbed home at 1 plus.
And fortunately, or rather unfortunately, i saw a NR6 stopping in front of my cab. Got pretty mad esp when i paid the taxi driver coz I NEVER KNEW THE BLARDIE BUS SERVICED MY AREA.
Haiz...got my results back today. For all that i've studied...or rather NOT studied, i got a CAP score of 3.5 . Really dont know whether to be sad or not. For the modules i thought i'd get gd grades (read: at least B+), i didnt. For modules which i expected to do badly, i did better than expected. BUT!!! the WORST shock has gotta be my German mod! Dammit...apparently everyone's been doing real well for it so my i-thot-it-was-pretty-commendable German grades turned out to be worth only a B+, so there. For things which u thought u performed darned well for and therefore should deserve a fantastic A++++++ grade, think again. Lit sucked, and it still does. However im well aware no one's to blame but myself. Gotta admit that in the 5 days that i was given to study for Lit, i was already on holiday mode and wasnt really committed...and not to mention anyhow-doing my Lit paper. Pretty shameful, considering the fact that a dear friend of mine who had to cram the entire semester's work in 5 days did better than i who had all the luxury of time to mugg. So go, yan...go. Go flush urself into the toilet bowl now. *krrrrrrooooonggggg whoooshhhh...*
Woke up feeling damned worried about my results which are gonna be released on the 23rd. Scaring the shit out of me... Praying hard everyone else didnt do that well either so i'd at least survive on the average of Bs. *cross fingers cross fingers* Suffering from PRT - Pre-Results Tension.
I went to Esplanade to see Hua Cheng perform with the NJ alumni just now. And had dinner at Makansutra - Glutton's Square with Shao, Shaun, Zhengwen, Edwin and his friend Sheena. Very friendly girl! Then after that Shao Shaun n i went to Chocolate Bar at the Esplanade to have their Chocolate Fondue. Woaaaahhh...damned good stuff! Especially digged the white choc dip out of the 3 dips we were given - dark n milk choc being the other 2. Went well with all the strawberries, banana, marshmellow and bread that we had - basically everything! Woah..though my tummy bloated after tt i've no regrets manx. Gonna try out the Strawberry White Choc Float the next time round!
My M.I.N.D.S gig was so fun n good yesterday!Though i still managed to get nervous during the show and forgot the lyrics of Rudolph's song, going "nehnehnhnehneh..." at the parts which i cldnt get. hahaha...damned diu lian...but i guess (apart from the NVAC volunteers) our main target audience didnt quite mind it abit? Nearly burst out laughing when i saw one of the kids dancing while we were singing - he shook his ass really well! Haha not tt Acappella songs are exactly groovable, but he really puts the guys i saw TRYING to grove at Chinablack to shame, i'd say. And Derek! Hahaha he's another distraction. What with all his hilarious actions for the interactive songs. The rest of Reso should have been there to see him do his stuff for Santa Claus is Coming to Town manx. Hahahahhaa...i nearly died laughing.
My mum picked me up to go midnight shopping at Suntec after the gig. Supposed to be a good outing - except i got furious with my dad. Baah! That unreasonable miser. And i lost all my mood for shopping after that...Partly also coz i wore sports shoes yesterday and couldnt try out shoes at the so many shoe shops i saw. Spoiler, spoiler, spoiler!!!
Tuesday 13th Dec
Went to school for Reso practice today. Aww it was bad...no, correction: I was bad. Kept forgetting my lyrics and screwing up the songs and sounded really off. Bahh...
After the practice ended Xiaowei DROVE over to school to have lunch together! Gawd...she's really one smart and lucky ass to have somehow made her way there by herself - considering that the directions i gave her beforehand was wrong(according to her). Hahaha...helluva gutsy and lucky friend i have. I lurve it when there's always funny things happening with her around! Lunch at Arts canteen, then we went to West Mall for her to get her sis' stuff. By the way and on the way, she scratched her Dad's beautiful Mercz (again), dis time right smack in the middle of the right passenger door. Go check it out haha.
After that we headed back to her house and kopped some songs off her lappie...TOp(Laptop, sorry) while she painted her nails a errr...nice...beige colour, then we went to her condo for a swim. Okay it was more like a soaking session for me, since i can at my best fly in the water. I had dinner with her at the eatery at the condo. Have to say that apart from the mosquito i found in my tray of nuggets and the strong smell of pig's lard in xiaowei's chicken, the food was pretty good. Happily went home...and ate again - despite plans to cut down our flabs during the swim. Yuck...im gonna be a pregnant elephant soon.
Wednesday 14 Dec
Been a good girl today. Mum drove me to xw's in the morning to collect my scores and pitchpipe which i left behind the day before, then we headed back home and helped my Mum with the pri 4s. Haha...it sounds stupid but it feels good to FINALLY do something for her.
In the afternoon i took Georgine to watch Chicken Little...with Ling, Pear n Yaremy! The show was pretty lame, but there was adequate humour in it. Not bad i guess, but i thought Shrek was better. LAter on Ling brought us to Galilee n Friends to eat a 'lil. Food was great and not that expensive either, which was good coz my mum didnt give me money for the holidays and im really going broke. Lounged for a couple of hours there playing lame but fun games. lolx...was surprised the staff didnt kick us out or smthg. Georgine had a good time i believe.
I thought Gine wld be kinda awkward with them but boy, was i soooo happy to see that she enjoyed herself!:) And kudos to the very lovely trio who went out of their way to make sure she felt right at ease. I absolutely lurve all three of them manx. Hmm...time to think of what to do for them dis Xmas. I certainly hope Ling doesnt read this manx Hahah!
Saturday 10th December
I met up with huishan at JP to borrow her pitchpipe and to shop with her since i made up my mind not to go Zoukout, initially. Hua Cheng came too..and both of us were helping her decide which pair of glasses to buy. That fickle woman...now i know how the both of us click so well - Birds of a feather flock tgr, as they say. Edwin joined us later at 4pm for coffee n talk at McCafe's. Lesbians, gays, homos, handsome Korean hunks were the topics of the day. haha the things that huishan says can be sooo farny at times. Cant stand her manx...and i've got this sneaking suspicion that she's turning lesbo before our very eyes. Oh my gawd. hahaha! Xiaowei called me on the phone, and after happily scolding me for not jio-ing her (when huishan actually did and the birdbrain didnt know how to differentiate between afternn n evening), managed to somehow convince me into going to Zoukout with her. And i suspect ive been hypnotised over the phone.
After a gd dinner at Kopitiam tgr, we went to xiaowei's house to change and do makeup after sending huishan home.(minus the guys). Wow xiaowei practically runs a bao-ka-liao convenience store where she was able to provide me with everything i need for my Zoukout gear....not to mention with her critical taste in clothes. Gosh...but that's when i realise i can never wear bikinis coz they make me look as if i've got no boobs when im officially a B. Dammit. I hope someone gets me a bust-firming gel/lotion/pills/liquids/solids/goo for Xmas.
The result? At 10pm, shoppers sighted 2 totally embarrassd, skimpy-looking girls scooting their way to the POSB ATM machines to withdraw money and scooting off again to hail a cab to Siloso beach.
Met up with xiaomin, and mingzheng, shaun, qixian n another-guy-whom-i-dont-know-im-so-so-sorry before getting the ticket. My ticket. The very inexpensive 48-buck ticket to the Zoukout carnival-of-sorts. Walked around, grabbed a couple of drinks and checked out the 3 arenas - one of which was the mambo/hiphop arena which i very much was willing to stick to for the rest of the night. Had periods of happy, good jiggling...except that i was pretty sad i missed my favourite RnB for Electrico's performance:( I prefer RnB over rock i guess, with absolutely no offense to the band or to the company i was with. What's more, a fat Caucasian guy in front of me cldnt contain his excitement during the performance and decided to jump and land on my poor foot, which now sports a painful bruise. Ouch! After that we returned to mambo arena for the remnants of my fav music. Had a lil bit more fun till around 4 plus - when it started to rain and stop all the fun for us. Simply couldn't stand the cold...so we left the place and waited in the shelter of the main arena for the longest time till the rain subsided.
Departure drama was up next: we took the wrong bus, ended up at the beach carpark, returned to the beach again, jumped queue for the RIGHT bus, then finally was saved by xiaomin's brother who agreed to drive us home to xiaowei's house and the lovely beds.
Wouldn't say the Zoukout episode was the best experience i've had, but i certainly had my share of fun and saw the things i wanted to see - many many gd-looking...err...people.
Exams finally over on Thurs evening!! Seriously the Lit paper was screwed. Though i studied i didnt find anything i could utilise onto the paper. It was almost as if i didnt use my brains at all. But nvm. It wasnt my concern anymore after i stopped the pen. Was already super looking forward to the bash! - A celebration of my victory against the exam demons. OH and the flu bug as well. Was down with a terrible flu prior to Lit paper.
FRiday. Woke up at 10. The unit above my flat was having renovations so my mum was already out at the zoo with the kids by then. Whoa...i've nv felt so unrestricted before in my life! Went to Xiaowei's house at 2. The babe's absolutely amazing! Expert with clothes, make up...Super pro! I actually looked gd for once. Love her loads for that! (Hope she doesnt see this tho. She might float away to outer space with tt inflated ego of hers haha. And i love Huishan loads too!) After that we met up with Huishan and Shaun for dinner at Big O's. The sandwich i ordered from the SNACKS menu was humongous! I mean...u actually call that...snacks? Headed straight for chinablack from there. Met Lydia, Huiling, Lijing, Xiaomin, Becky, Nicole - xw's friend; Zhengwen and his NDU troops as well. And Allison the mambo queen was there too! So happy to see her! But pity Schwester Wanling n the rest didnt come tgr with her after their steamboat at Cuppage:( Aww man.
Somehow the mood wasnt quite there for me coz i didnt drink much and music wasnt fantastic in the beginning. Bad move. But it picked up later on and i partehhhhed! Haha...i felt REALLY safe in there this time. I mean...the entire SAF was present! Lotsa army guys were there according to Allison.(And yeah...there were a couple of gd-looking ones.) Talk about maximum safety manx...I didnt know they provide national security at clubs too. And oh i saw a couple of navy ppl monkeying around... Hahaha really hilarious stuff, i swear.
Finally left the place at around 3 plus 4. Totally beat. Then had supper/breakfast at Macs till 5am, before we headed back to xiaowei's. The 3 of us only slept at 7am, and woke up at 11 coz Xiaowei had to recce some place in Sentosa. Busy busy girl. REturned home very sehhhhh but still i thought i had alota fun still. A gd way to kickstart my hols!
