Another random post on the songs i've been listening to lately.

This is Details in the Fabric - yet another song from Mraz's CD which i've grown to love. James Morrison collaborates with Mraz on this number; the beginning reminds me a little of Damien Rice's Blower's Daughter. (Cal, you must listen to it!) Check out the song if you've the time, and if u like the track let me know, coz i've got the CD:)

Calm down
Deep breaths
And get yourself dressed instead
of running around
And pulling on your threads and
Breaking yourself up

If it's a broken part, replace it
If it's a broken arm then brace it
If it's a broken heart
Then face it

And hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
Hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
And everything will be fine

Hang on
Help is on the way
Stay strong
I'm doing everything

Hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
Hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way

And everything
Everything will be fine
Everything

Are the details in the fabric
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling

Are the things that make you blow
Hell, no reason, go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault
Of faulty manufacturing

Everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Everything

Hold your own
And know your name
And go your own way

Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling (Go your own way)

Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic (Go your own way)
Is it Mother Nature's sewing machine

Are the things that make you blow (Hold your own, know your name)
Hell no reason go on and scream
If you’re shocked it's just the fault (Go your own way)
Of faulty manufacturing

Everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Hearts will hold

Awwww=)

Had a surprise birthday celebration for my ah kor Jeremy A. at Esplanade on Friday night. Incurred the Mum's wrath by doing that coz she worries a heck lot for me, but for all the times that this kor kor has looked out for me, i just cldn't miss his birthday for the world=)
Just want to say that im very happy for him because he recently got attached to a lovely girl who happens to be my classmate for two Psych modules and - even more coincidentally - was my batchmate in NJ. It's a really, really small world;)

A simple shout-out to him should he ever read this:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, AH KOR=)
Here's to many more blissful moments in your happy life!

I have a really hot butt.

No, seriously. I did my touch-ups in the library loo before heading for class (was mugging in the morning) and i left my concealer in my jeans pocket out of convenience. At the end of the seminar, guess what... MY CONCEALER MELTED!!

Do not underestimate the power of my tush, i tell ya. It BURNS.

PS to Charm: Aber den. I couldn't stop smiling from the time i entered the shop till the time i left with my bounty:D
PS to Byebye Daniel: Now u know why i cldn't tell u the reason for my happiness during lecture?:P DONT BE SO KAYPOH NEXT TIME. hahaha

Attended a Chinese songwriting competition organised by NTU this evening, coz my cousin was in the organising committee and he needed support. So since it's a very Chinese event, i thought i'd pen this down in Chinese. heh:P

I sang for a gig with my friend's band last month, and i thought that was the end of it...

Until i found this in my mail:

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself

irishLk55 has made a comment on Don't Stop the Music:

I LOVED the way Maria changed the song and you guys did a great job playing it with a band!

You can reply to this comment by visiting the comments page.

......

Well, thank you for the compliment:)

But i totally freaked out because i was never told anyone made a video of it, much less had it placed on youtube. Im not angry, just that i don't really like to hear myself on the playback; knowing that there's a clip of me singing online (those VO3 ones on fb don't count because the viewership has been controlled) scares the crap out of me. Im perfectly fine with listening to my acap grps' recordings to improve on the technicalities IF i knew i was fairly decent - with the occasional wayward notes - but it eats me to hear the more jarring mistakes coming back at me.

So with my heart in my throat, i clicked on the video and shut my laptop screen. Because seeing myself sing sucks even more. haha

And i nearly gagged.

(which btw was what i did before the gig coz of stomach flu.)

haha im not going into details as to how bad i sounded, just know that if i thought it was decent enough, i would've put it up here. (no offense to derek sum's superb guitar, louis' percussion, and nina's accompaniment, they all rocked my socks; it's just my pride and my little inferiority complex at odds. heh)

Caught Love Guru with the bestie in the afternn.

Forensic psych class stressed me up alot, so it was a very timely stress-reliever. Before that i was so bothered that i actually snapped at her over the phone, simply coz i didnt want to drink expensive coffee at Starbucks; and which i eventually still did=P (im such a b***h, i know. haha)

The show's funny, though quite abit of it is slapstick humour. (I mean, this was produced by Mike Myers, what else do u expect?) The superimposed Mike Myers head scene was simply IDIOTIC. The show banks in on crude humour, so you'd probably want to avoid it if you can't stomach such politically incorrect stuffs. Otherwise, if you badly need a break from ur very stressed life, give this one a chance.

Here's the trailer i got from the official webbie:

i really should be studying instead of blogging several times in a single evening, but my mum wanted to watch video clips of that infamously gay referee on youtube after watching him on tv, so i had to find those for her.

Here's a random one which i found funny...it's a collection of referee bloopers. Enjoy:)

haha...those who haven't watched this year's National Day rally should take some time out to watch it (and the Olympics, of course.). This year's speech is so much more interesting than previous years'!

Am glad that the speech will get SBS to doing something about their bus frequencies (c'mon, do smthg about 95 and 151 already!), hopefully we don't have to pay extra bus and train fares for that. I mean, if they don't want every household to own a car they should make it cheaper to take public transport what...not the other way round, no?

Am glad they're giving me extra pocket money on Children's Day to offset the cost of my textbooks, i just hope that a teeny weeny bit of the extra bursaries that they're offering will eventually come to me when i apply for them. Im so fed up with NUSSU for rejecting my applications...not once, but TWICE. Bloody hell.

But i find it kinda hard to digest the fact that my PM is suggesting for parents to help matchmake their children. Oh gawd, i can't ever imagine my own parents doing that for me! hahahahaha

Btw, i can't believe that BOTH the US men and women's teams dropped their batons in their relays! GOSH. ARE YOU GUYS SLEEPING??

I just watched le Fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain, and i love it! A must-watch.=))

I loved the many quirky little quotes that they scattered throughout the film, and i've left the link to those here just in case anyone wants to check em out. But it's best to watch it before doing so, coz many of the quotes are made in the context of the movie. (Not those high and flighty ones that tell you how u shld lead life, no. haha) I thank Dr Tan for making us watch foreign films for lab demo... I suppose it's her way of giving us rest amidst the mountainous heaps of readings:P

Spotted an events posting on ivle the other day for F1 tourist ambassadors (not unlike the ushers u see welcoming the Olympic athletes on TV), so i figured i'd sign up for it and learn a thing or two abt hospitality and gain some exposure. Afterall, how often does one get offers to be part of major international events like this?

So sent in my resume using my gmail acct. (Btw my hotmail acct is currently s0 flooded with FB notifications, i no longer use it for official matters=P Not that im unhappy abt it tho. haha) With the hope that i'd get a reply in my gmail, i checked it for the past 2 days, only to be disappointed when no new mail came in. I thought i didnt stand a chance and so, didn't do anything abt it.

Then at 2.45pm yesterday afternn, i decided to check my NUS mail before i headed for my Medications lecture. No prizes for guessing what i found...

I shld've been happy, but the catch was (no, not 22) that i was expected at the STB auditorium at 2.45pm. Frantically, i called up the STB ppl but no one picked up any one of my 20 calls made in the next half hr. Ended up being very restless during the Medications lecture coz i cldn't decide if i should cab down for it. (im sure Daniel wld've knocked me out cold if he cld, coz i was fidgeting nonstop in my seat and he prob found it super hard to concentrate. Sorry, my friend:x)

Eventually, i went. Im glad, because i know i'd regret if i hadn't done so. It wasn't so much about the outcome i guess; it was about going for what i want to do, which i don't get to do very often. So no matter how the interview turns out, im a happy girl=)

Random thoughts of the day:

Sometimes, we might be so used to having what we want prepared nicely and conveniently for us at our disposal, that we forget we were supposed to seek them in the first place.

BEST OF LUCK, SINGAPORE PADDLERS!

At long last, i managed to find the song which the female protagonist sang for the Japanese collaborator during their last secret liaison at the Japanese tavern in Lust, Caution. (reading Cal's review reminded me of it.) To me, the scene in which the song was featured was most poignant because that was the moment of truth when she reveals how she truly feels for the him in the privacy of the room, detached from all the deception and conspiracy that was taking place outside. The song was the only 'solid' (for lack of a better word) indication, because most of the time you could only infer the dynamics between the two from their *ehem* body language and the intensity of their gaze whenever they looked at each other.

Will definitely buy the uncensored DVD when i've the time to watch it, coz i was one of those stupid impulsive people who caught the cut version when it first came out. -_-

Last night was another round of TGIF with the girlies, and this time, we had Lydia and Thiam How for company. heh somehow, our outings now seem to take place in a talk-show format, with new guests every week.

Had dinner at Shin Kushiya at Vivo, where the waiters are so gentlemanly and the food so, so good. Though i would recommend Sun and Moon instead if u were on a tighter budget. I tried the green tea mochi parfait at both places; the one at Sun and Moon was half the price and i preferred it.

Anw. Lydia was great company and xw nearly died of exasperation at the sheer noisy madness that was going on. Talked abt our mums in general, then Lydia went on to talk abt her ex-es (according to xw she has heard it 223 times), which was when hell broke loose and the all the unspeakables started flying freely across the dining table. HAHAHAHA. Well, it was cathartic to say the least. (suh, if u're reading this, i now understand the wonders of cussing. !)

Joined by Shan, and Thiam How later on, xw drove us all into Sentosa, where we parked at Cafe Del Mar for drinks before walking along the beach. The sand was cool to the touch, and under the moonlight it was just...total serenity. It's a very different sensation as opposed to the beach in the day - very chill-out, very peaceful. Best place to hear blue-sy Norah Jones songs (oh how i love her!). I would recommend anyone who has the time to do that sometime because you'd probably get out of the island feeling much better than when u went in. Shitty things that's been bothering you before and after will probably be nothing more but shit that you wldn't even give a hoot abt. All zen and peaced-out, you'll feel.

Will really miss xw after she flies off to the UK for her Masters (and the green-eyed, strong jawline beau of her dreams) in three weeks. Must spend more time with her!

Btw, I'd like to say that things are looking up on the home front. Mum's been exceptionally nice to me the past few weeks (presumably after the letter i wrote her abt what i've been going through), and i've begun to feel so much more at ease talking to her these days.
I sure want it to continue this way for as long as it can=)

First and formost,

CONGRATULATIONS TO RESO FOR CLINCHING THE TOP SPOT!

To the champions, WELL DONE! You guys stuck to ur guns, worked so freakin' hard and reaped the rewards that you so deserved. To say that im proud of you is an understatement=)

You guys are one helluva gutsy group, and you have my utmost respect! *salutes*

Loved Ladies and the Men too! Thought they should've gotten the top spot for college cat (tho i must admit im a sucker for boyband moves). Fire and Don't Know Why were wonderfully done in my opinion. I love how the soloist pulled the former off - simple, yet with the sassy attitude that i hvn't been able to achieve. Very zai, i say. Makes my rendition sound too damn slutty in comparison. hahah

ps: sorry if i appeared to be a tad subdued/zen post results! haha i was so worried sick watching the competition, kinda cui-ed emotionally later on. Damn stupid, i know... But it didnt help that i had another ultimate worry wart sitting next to me LOL. Occupational hazard=P

My first day of school's finally over. Am now bumming in the library, trying to find and print my Psych journal articles for the semester. Damn geeky, i know... and i don't care. Im only doing my part in revolutionizing the image of geeky people here=D

Evo class was hell interesting, i swear.
Sample Qn 1: Why do the husbands of the Dogon women in the Mali tribe isolate their wives in a dark hut for 5 days a month?
Sample Qn 2: Human beings are the highly-evolved form of primates. True or false?
My friends, if u have the answers, let me know. If u get it right i'll get u a lollipop the next time i see you.

Anw. CharmY msged me after class to complain she was falling aslp at work. orh-horrrrr...
So i suggested that she did star jumps at her cubicle so she'd not only get her adrenaline pumping (that's definitely gonna keep her awake), she'll do her other sleepy colleagues a favour by waking them up too because the sight of some random silly newbie randomly doing star jumps at her cubicle is. simply. hilarious. Who knows? She might just become the pioneer of the Office Revolution.

She says i 'siao', but i think it's an ingenious idea. In fact, i don't think i've ever made more sense talking non-sense.

... ...

Okay but then again, two nonsense-filled posts might just be a leeeettle too much for a day=P

Okay...i've just attended my first seminar for the semester. And since it's the introductory lecture, it ended early and here i am bitching abt it in the canteen.

Boy, did my first lecture shock my pants off. Because its a graduate module, people whom i used to call my tutors are now my classmates. O_0

TELL ME HOW TO SCORE LIKE THAT LAH.

But i'll try my darndest best, of course. Not giving up without a fight!

Maybe this morning's incident had been a sign - i fell right at the mrt train door.

Talk about grand entrances and brand new starts.

But then again, if falling, scrapping my knee and hence, embarrassing myself in public was the worst thing that could happen to me in the new school semester, then everything else would and should be better in comparison...Like having your tutors as classmates=D

If i had a car of my own, i would have Craig David's Walking Away (hyperlink to mv)
on loop in my player, wind down the windows and ride off into the dead of the night...and i would go as far and as long as i want to until... until the last of the angst in my heart goes away for good.

BUT.

Stepping back into reality, i am aware that it's time to pack my ass off to school and it wldn't really do me a big deal of good listening to emo songs and such. So, i've decided to make myself happy instead by listening to Love Makes the World Go Round (hyperlink to the mv) by the Powerpuff girls instead to kickstart my brand new semester in school. This one listen alr, confirm smile. Smile=)

Many thanks to Yani babe for sending me that song when i've been feeling so lousy recently. Im so gonna arrange a 7-parter for that! And maybe we can sport cheerleader outfits if we ever do this song in public=D

PS to my other treasured gal pal who's currently feeling bogged down: i just want to tell u that im very very happy i've had a friend like you to piss me off for the past three yrs. You've made me feel that i am needed (that i am worthy of ur friendship) when u shared your joys and sorrows, and im glad to have made your road a little brighter when the going got tough. Thank you, my friend for all the joy you've brought to my life thus far=)

Went for breakfast at Eminent Plaza with the folks and the botak brother. After breakfast, the folks decided to go buy 4D, leaving the the botak brother (let's call him BB) and myself to wait in the car. Being terribly bored, I goaded the BB into moving the car away to another spot before the folks came back =D =D =D

Cost of stupid act:
Petrol wastage, scratching the Mercedes Benz and Volkswagon in the neighbouring lots and loss of heads when the folks find out.

Cost of Dad's 'Eh darling, where's my car?' expression:
PRICELESS.

Wanted to do my regular crunches and push-ups, but i hurt my lower back doing those a couple of days ago and it still gives me pain, so that's out of the question too. "-______-

Maybe i shld count my blessings, that i've got my psych readings to do and a ridiculous but damn funny book to keep myself sane when i eventually get bored to tears by the readings... But. There are, on average, about 30 pgs per reading, and i've got 4-5 readings to do per topic. I don't have to say anymore, do i? hehh.

How i miss the days when i still had 恶作剧2吻 to look forward to every week.

With the end of the FIC, i think im about done with gigging already. Technical glitches notwithstanding, i'd like to think that my time in Reso have come full circle, as the FIC this year marks the third anniversary since the time i saw Reso perform at my FIC and harboured secret hopes that one day, i would be given a chance to perform at the event too.

so i guess it's FIC - where it all began=)

Not that i want things to end nor am i eager to quit now, but with new blood coming in i suppose it's time for me to slowly make my way to the exit; especially since i've heard countless times how i often manage to unconsciously stress the RFY mezzo sops out when they hear me sing. "-_-. I feel so maligned sometimes, haha!

This FIC gig was an experience of a few firsts - one of which has to be staying overnight at the UCC. (but of course its only cheap thrill, i know.) While it was an idea very exciting and novel, it wasnt so fun anymore in the night, where hell froze over in the dressing room. I had to shiver my way to the pantry where it was warmer and there was wireless available. Sleeping in the dressing room was a refreshing experience for me... But only because i could not sleep much at all.

"-_______-.

Even for the time i did lose consciousness, it wasnt much; because i just had to have a nightmare in that few hours of precious shuteye.

"-________________-

But still, the fun we had the next day more than made up for it. My very camera-resistent friends suddenly had the urge to photo-whore to pass the long waiting time in the dressing room. Those interested can refer to my FB pictures for more details. -grins-

Since there isn't any other gigs lined up for my grp for the time being, i guess i'd have to miss singing with them till the opportunity arises... but im sure we will, coz we still have to sing Bu Zhi De together! (right, peeps?=))

Though it hasn't exactly been a smooth ride, this period of my life would probably remain as one of the most memorable thus far. I am thankful for all the wonderful opportunities, memories and the tough times that have come my way, because each of these experiences have helped me grow as an individual and have given me a chance to know myself and those whom i love and treasure a little better.

I couldn't have asked for more=)

My brother's back=)

And since he was in the mood, we went jogging along the park connector from Potong to Bishan. Had my zen neon with me, which surprised me by playing onerepublic's Apologize the minute i turned it on. Surprised...coz i haven't heard it in a while, and i forgot that i even had it in my player. But it was the right song, because alot of things were running through my mind at the time that i had to sort out; and it gave me the strength i needed to think through things calmly and rationally. (which probably means that if you really want to space out when you exercise, you shouldn't play that song, haha) Funny how the same song that i previously said was emotionally disturbing could actually make me feel so strong in a different situation...

Thankfully at the end of the jog, i managed to come to a decision.

And the evening sky never looked so beautiful.

Personal achievement:

I EXERCISED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EIGHT WHOLE MONTHS.

*cues for applause*

Not only did i do my crunches and my push-ups, i jogged 3 laps arnd my neighbourhood for more than half an hour. Every moment of it was sheer torture for my poor ankles and my jiggling thighs, but it provided the precious reprieve that my mind badly needed. I used to be doubtful when my Dad told me that exercise reduces stress, but i now see the logic behind it - instead of focusing on ur problems, ur mind shifts its attention to ur muscles which are screaming bloody murder and it simply gets too overwhelmed to bother about the immaterial issues that you can't even see or touch.

Only regret was trying too hard doing strides during my cool-down walk. I maimed a good half of my thighs and now i find myself walking funny, in the way i have to navigate down stairs with legs wide apart. Very ugly indeed...

But oh wells, like they say, no pain no gain. And what doesn't kill me, only makes me stronger.

Im definitely a believer.

Looking forward to my next exercise session!
