Just started learning a new song recently, and couldn't resist youtubing it. Managed to find Charlotte Church's rendition of it, which is simply beautiful; the lyrics even more meaningful. The song's The Water is Wide, just thought i'd share =)

(Btw, Enya does not sing in this version, contrary to what the title suggests >.<)

The water is wide
I cannot get o'er
and neither have I wings to fly

Give me a boat that will carry two
And both shall row my love and I

Where love is planted
O there it grows
It grows and blossoms like a rose
It has a sweet and pleasant smell
No flower on earth can it excel

A ship there is and she sails the sea
She's loaded deep as deep can be
but not so deep as the love I'm in
I know not if I sink or swim

O love is handsome
and love is fine
And love's a jewel while it is new
But when it is old, it grows so cold
and fades away like morning dew...

In my opinion, our education system has been a very effective one. At least in my case, because i've been so successfully institutionalised, that even after my graduation i still think teachers and lecturers are godly beings who belong to a totally superior realm high above and beyond the reach of the mundane.

So imagine my utter shock when my classmate, Jit, found one of my profs on FACEBOOK, and subsequently TAGGED HIM IN ONE OF MY PHOTOS.

I nearly gagged, because my friends and i left so many rubbish comments after that photo - man, i even offered to send Jit the photo via email so she gets the better quality photo - that i naively hoped my prof would never get to see. So, imagine the look on my face when said prof subsequently joined in the thread with a -.-".

IF you ask me, this is probably the first and last time he is ever going to take pictures with such poses with students.

So. if said prof happens to stumble upon this post, i have this to say to him:

Dear Dr ____, I am sorry if i had been too excited with the photo and therefore said things that were probably out of place. Please understand that it was done in pure fun, no malice intended; and really, you looked good in the picture! You alone, made the picture one of its kind=D

In all sincerity, I am grateful you freaked the crap out of us during Stats 2131 tutorials back when we took your module in year 1, because you made us read up our textbooks religiously week after week so that we could answer your questions, if you so randomly asked. Your sarcasm is the stuff of legends, and I am so honoured to have had the privilege of attending your classes, masochistic as I sound saying that.

I wish you well, Sir, and be rest assured that I will tell my daughters in future never to believe in the personality tests that they read in Cleo magazines.

With My Best Regards
JY

Lately, a mini pandemic has broken out at the centre, which is very worrying. Just yesterday, we had 15 kids who reported sick at school and had to be taken home, with 4 of them ordered to take tests at KKH cus they were suspected cases with the H1N1 virus. Mum is worried that at this rate we might have to stop operations for a while.

This is a really bad time to fall sick, especially for those of you out there working at jobs which require constant human contact. So please, to all of you people who are so dear to me, do take more of those Vitamin Cs, drink alot of water and keep yourselves healthy.

I HAVE GRADUATED!!

I hadn't thought i would have problems sleeping the night before, but in fact, i did. And morning came an entire hour before my alarm, so i really wonder if i even slept at all. Nevertheless, with the excitement running in my veins, i went about preparing myself and was all ready BEFORE TIME - which is really rare if u've known me for long enough. But like all other important family events in the Ho family, something had to go wrong. And it did.

Mum and Dad returned home late. =/
So i found myself watching the living room clock in anxiety at 9.25am, at which time i shld've arrived in style at the UCC in time for the doors to close at 9.40. But like every other times, i also managed to delude myself to think that i'd make it on time, so i remained a picture of calm for most parts of the journey, somewhat (more like a FACADE of calm, i hear u say).

What helped was that Mum got me a bouquet of flowers as a surprise - she RARELY did that - so i tried to be even sweeter, by changing into my gown VERY DISCREETLY in the car so she wldn't feel even worse to know that i wldnt have time to change in the Robing Room.
At 9.45, i found myself literally springing out from the car and sprinting - in my Mondo heels, no less - into the UCC. And boy was i glad to find my friends still outside the hall! As for my parents, our inpunctuality was a blessing in disguise, cus they were ushered right to the FRONT ROW together with the VIPs due to insufficient seats at the back. Talk about ineffective operant conditioning!

The rest, they say, is history. So i'll let the pics do the talking, and i thank all those of you dear friends, including Daniel who's in NZ right now, for your congratulations =)

With Daddy and Mummy!
And if im not wrong, this is the first time in 24 years that my Dad has worn a tie, ever since his own wedding=)))

Yeng Hong, the hahaha-forever gal who studied in sch with me and who is so ever-helpful; and Yi Tsun, probably the only gal in my entire lifetime who would call me 'Niang!' in the middle of LT27.

Clare, who taught me and studied with me till 3am the night before our Cog Neuropsych paper at 8am. Probably the sweetest friend i'll ever find!

My favourite!

Guess who did what during the grad tea..? And you wonder WHY.
Hokie! that's all i'll share before my entire webpage hangs from the info overload. The rest of them can be found on FB!
Signing out!
Luv,

This week, I officially graduate.

Come Wednesday, I celebrate the personal milestones that i've achieved, not only in the past four years in NUS, but also those that have led me to them and now, beyond.

The degree that i shall be receiving, is not only a testament to the sweat, blood, tears and puke it took to get me to where i now stand; it is also a reminder of what i once thought i would never be able to hold and therefore, an encouragement to tread bravely on the unchartered territory that now lies ahead of me.

And as i bid fond farewell to my beautiful alma mater, I hold close to my heart and in memory, my professors, teachers, mentors, dear friends and classmates who have walked with me each step of the way. To all these treasured people i've been blessed to get to have in my life:

It is not a tearful 'Goodbye forever', but a cheerful and hopeful 'See you later' that i say to you.

Much as i've enjoyed moments of sheer bliss that i always wished would never end, there were, undeniably, also adversities that i've been through in various aspects of my life in the past four years. Devastating may these episodes have been, i am glad i overcame each and every one of them, only to further lend affirmation to the woman of substance i have identified myself to be.

Thank you for the memories, and I pray for us all to never have to stop learning to love, and loving to learn.
