Caught Phantom of the Opera on okto last night despite running out of time for my Counselling essay (was overcome by inertia, haha) and had the sudden inspiration to youtube for the OSTs of some of the musicals.

Of them all, I really like Music of the Night (i even have a snowglobe featuring that song), but it is On My Own from Les Miserables that takes the cake because that was my fav song out of the entire repertoire, the first time i had a (minor) starring role in a sch music - as kid Eponine, and ironically also because i had alot of problems memorising the lyrics for this one. heh, i kept mixing the verses up, not very unlike Boogie. haha

This is the Les Miserables 10th Anniversary performance, with Lea Salonga starring as Eponine. Absolutely adore her for her vocals...lungs of steel man. And the way she delivered the song with so much intensity... let's just say that she wldnt hv been casted for so many major singing roles in all these musicals if her music didnt touch hearts.

Any trained singer can hit all the right notes at the right time and at the right tempo, but to be able to convey the story and the emotions behind the music, that's a whole new level altogether that i can only aspire to achieve.

i've waited months and months for tonight, and im glad i made it to the naturally 7 concert.

For life has temporarily become such a chore for this very high-strung bonobo who started her essay a tad too late and is now under pressure to complete her 2500-word Counselling essay on time, that she needed a reprieve.

"Gosh, what a rush," by Foo (2006) would fit in here very nicely.

No doubt, the two hours could have worked miracles, but looking from the other side of the coin the two hours were also the timely reprieve that i needed. I needed a highlight of the week and i was given. And as it turned out, totally worth the two hours of could-have-been miracles! Couldn't stop smiling throughout the show...

Like this --> =D

Was almost reluctant to return home to my essay.

And i cld tell that my neighbours' husky shared my sentiments about returning home to misery from the woe-be-gone look he had as i passed their gate. (Okay fine. Im stretching things a little too far here just to find an excuse to talk abt my neighbours' dog.) But really. He looked so sad, i had the urge to go up to it, give it the hug it probably needs and steal him out for a walk or something. For me to feel this much compassion towards it despite my slight fear for big dogs says alot abt how sad he really looked, cus i nv fully got over the traumatic experience of being chased by a big black one on my 10th birthday. I still freeze when my other neighbour's golden retriever gets too friendly with me sometimes.

Anw. Poor husky has been giving me that same sad look every single time i walk past his door, that even if i wasnt feeling unhappy that day, i tend to get a little moody after that just by looking at him. I wonder if the owners are even aware that their dog's unhappy. If they can't give him the attention it needs, why wont they just give him to someone else who are able to provide better care than they?

Irresponsible, insensitive dog owners.

I am so going to offer them to take poor husky out for a walk after i submit my Counselling paper on Thursday. Even if there is just that slight risk of having my hand chewed off by the fella, i would.

The Script's 'The End Where I Begin'. Song of the moment! What i like about them is that they don't give me a hard time deciphering what they're singing. These Irish dudes articulate their words well and i like that - leaves no room for uncertainty.

Take it away, dudes!

The Script - The End Where I Begin

What don't kill a heart, only makes it strong.

Had just woken up on Sunday morning when i saw a msg from Clare, my godsend of a friend whom i've to credit for keeping me sane amidst the mad times thus far:

"Sometimes that mountain you've been climbing is just a grain of sand, and what you've been out there searching for forever is in your hands.. Oh when you figure out love is all that matters after all... It sure makes everything else seem so small - carrie underwood. Here's sending lots of love, sunshine and smiles to you at the start of a new week!"

I was running a high fever, with a throbbing headache and nursing a flu and a sore throat when i picked up my phone, and though the pain didnt magically disappear like i wished it would, the msg made me smile despite the misery. Goes to show that little gestures like that do make a difference afterall=)

Subsequently went to check out the song, which i liked because of the lyrics, even more because it's Carrie Underwood. I found it meaningful, and i hope that whoever reads this, it'll give you that extra ounce of strength that you need to get through the day (and the heap of readings/assignments next to you) too!

Carrie Underwood - So Small

What you got if you ain't got love
The kind that you just want to give away
It's ok to open up
Go ahead and let the light shine through
I know it's hard on a rainy day
You wanna shut the world out and just be left alone
But don't run out on your faith

Cause sometimes that mountain you've been climbing
Is just a grain of sand
And what you've been out there searching for forever
Is in your hands
And when you figure out love is all that matters after all
It sure makes everything else seem
So small

It's so easy to get lost inside
A problem that seems so big at the time
It's like a river that's so wide it swallows you whole
While you're sitting around thinking about what you can't change
And worrying about all the wrong things

Time's flying by, moving so fast
You better make it count cause you can't get it back
Sometimes that mountain you've been climbing
Is just a grain of sand
And what you've been out there searching for forever
Is in your hands
Oh, and when you figure out love is all that matters after all
It sure makes everything else seem
So small, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

Sometimes that mountain you've been climbing
Is just a grain of sand
And what you've out there searching for forever
Is in your hands
And then you figure out love is all that matters after all
It sure makes everything else
Oh, it sure makes everything else seem
So small

Welcome to this week's episode of Study Smart and Ace Your Tests with a Fart! Tonight, we are pleased to help this viewer who has written in to us with the following problem:

It's the day before my cog neuro test. And because i have a slob for a lecturer, her lecture materials are totally disorganized and lack focus! I have absolutely no freakin' idea what to study for the test! What should i do??

Well, fret not, darling. There is never a question too difficult for our panel of study specialists on SSAYTF! Here are some of the brilliant solutions that our experts have suggested:
  1. Chew and swallow your readings so all of the information gets into your system within 2-5 hours. You may tear them into smaller pieces for easier digestion.
  2. Have u noticed how your profs always tell you to 'sleep on it' when they ask very chim questions? That is the key to aceing your tests and exams! Hide the entire stack of readings under your pillow, and sleep on them for about 2-3 days. The information will radiate through your pillow, diffuse through the pores of your skin and enter your brain through the fissures of your skull. Sleep on your left side for maximum effectiveness. If the information received does not reach your desired level of precision, try sleeping face-down instead.
  3. Watch Grey's Anatomy. You'd probably learn more about the brain and its functions from Derek Shepherd than you'll ever do in class with your slob of a prof, anyway.
  4. The best option of all - Just. Wing. It.
And there you go! Problem solved!

We hope you've enjoyed tonight's episode of Study Smart and Ace Your Tests with a Fart! Here's wishing you all the best in your tests and exams. Goodbye and goodnight!

You know u're in deep shit when it's the last day of your term break and u realise that the stack of readings u're supposed to revise for ur midterms havent shrunk one bit...

But looking on the bright side, i suppose that means that my term break was truly a break?=P
Haven't been slacking around though, been doing the things that i probably wouldn't have time to do when work resumes, like filing my notes, studying for tests (like i said, it wasnt very successful), catching movies (finally!), changing bedsheets and shifting the furniture around (more on that shortly), which probably explains why i still don't feel well-rested after the past six days...

And yeah, just to update on the home front, the boys have finally moved out, which means that -adapting from HP's slogan - THE HOME IS PERSONAL AGAIN! Mum realised her house was slowly turning into an overcrowded slum, so she rented a flat nearby to house the boys and it's now two girls to a room instead of the original five-in-one. I need some getting used to the silence and the newfound space and privacy, but hoho. Im more than happy man...

No more 'excuse me, can i hv my full length mirror back pls?';
No more navigating around mattresses on the floor to get to my bed;
No more stuffy bedrooms;
No more funny smells in the room;
No more lingerie hanging around my room;
No more having to put up with ppl eating lychees and peanuts in my bedroom;
No more studying in the living room;
No more having to put up with the TV distractions while im studying; and most imptly,

NO MORE CLUTTER IN MY ROOM!!! *throws confetti*

Believe me, it's damn pek cek to have to return home every single day, only to be greeted by that clogged up mess of a room. It's been a long time coming, but im happy it looks so much brighter and inviting now. In fact, im celebrating the change by talking to myself in my 'new' room just so i can hear the echoes in my echo-ey room=D I think i might just buy myself a furry rug or beansack from IKEA too, so there's a comfy spot for my sis and i to read, listen to music or simply slack around in the room.

OR...

if any of my dearest friends would like to sponsor me that comfy rug or beansack, now's a great time to do so cus my birthday's coming up in less than a week (i didnt realise i was turning 23 THAT soon until this morning) =D Im very shameless, i know.

Alternatively, if anyone has got a little time to spare this week, let me know and we can arrange to meet for mini grp lunches or dinners or smthg. Going down to *scape to catch one of the Reso grps gig on Sat made me realise how much of a total recluse i've been, and how i've been neglecting my friends and even my family lately because of work. Really sorry dears=(

So due to my own undoing, im feeling a little more alone than usual, especially now that Mum has to bunk over with the boys in the weekdays to take care of them and so i dont get her back until the weekends. Maybe i'll pretend that she's gone to serve the army just to humour myself a little bit, but seeing her rush away with bags of her clothes and belongings...well, let's just say the feeling sucks. Wanted to give her a hug before she left, but i cldn't bring myself to do it. So i just stupidly stand there and watched until she disappeared from view and her footsteps faded away.

Hmmph. On hindsight, maybe the boys leaving wasn't such a happy affair afterall=/
