It's always really lovely to see your long-time-no-see friends again man. Esp when it's an all-girl group! Gen's gg back to Australia next week so she, jane han yi and i had a girls night out in town yesterday. Went to this lovely sushi place called Ichiban Boshi at wisma, which served really unique n great sushi! Move over, Sakae. We really enjoyed ourselves there...until the staff chased us out coz they were closing. Took pictures in wisma's funky loo(haha!), then we strolled abit along the Taka stretch which was surprisingly......quiet. Yes, i cant believe Orchard's quiet on Friday nights. They should take away the '17 yr-olds off the streets by 11pm' rule. I want the liveliness n noise man, gimme the noise!
Eventually we settled down at the McCafe at Lido to talk somemore. haha there was really so much to say, so little time. I miss u girls so so much. Gen come back soon!!!

Today evening i went out again, this time to celebrate Becky's bday. haha...sure didnt regret it! Thanks to hc n shaun, we had dinner at this place called the secret garden at Waterloo street. It sure is secret man, shaun becky n shao lost their way in getting there. Haha but the hc-zw-jy team managed to get there without much sweat! Food was (pricey but) good, ambience was lovingly fantastic, and the white n dark choc cake from ViVi Gauche? HEAVENLY!!! The whole cake was chocolate...and 90% was white somemore! My favourite!!! Sinful indulgence, i call it. But im lovin' it! I crapped alot during dinner n stuff, and thankfully my frens gave face n laughed at some pt. Phew! At least we didnt sian sian go home this time. So happy:)

I know what im blogging about next is gonna sound really juvenile, but damned i seem to be attracting lotsa cockroaches! Just tonight, in 2 separate incidents 30mins apart, i detected 2 big black flying cockroaches. And yeah... i screamed my head off on both occasions.

This profound fear of roaches goes way back to my kindergarten days. I found a cockroach in my bag during school, and with all of my childhood innocence, Thocked it up in my bag till i reached home. I still vividly rmb how my grandma overturned my bag, tossed my books all over the kitchen floor before we found it clinging tightly to one of my books. We flattened it of coz. Serves it right for terrorising me.
And since then i've had countless encounters with the black flying monster. What with dropping out from the air-con, appearing right above me on my bed, plopping in front of me on my study table, sitting next to me when i was cramming for Os, and even crawling on my arm when i wasn't looking.

Heck, i must have been the queen of roaches in my past life to be so acquainted with them now. and maybe i've loved them so much so that i absolutely loathe n fear them now. But whatever it is, take them away from me. Far, far away.

It's 2am in the morning. Im supposed to be either tucking myself into bed or reading up my psych materials, but basic instincts are directing me to www.blogger.com, so here i am.

Tonight's performance was, honestly and painfully, both a good and a bad one. On the Reso level, we've basically taken all of Reso's good reputation and thrown it down the highest storey of the tallest building in the world. As can be seen on DA BOSS' dark scary face throughout my grp's show. On the personal level, i realised that i've also taken all of my 6 yrs' worth of performance experience and thrown them away - back to the respective teachers. hahah...

So here it is, my learning log of singing. Lessons learnt( btw this is the good thing that i was referring to above):

  1. Sing loud, VERY LOUD, if the wonderful audience starts to become less-than-wonderful and are drowning you out. Attracting attention is the key.
  2. do a really proper soundcheck and tell the mic person frankly if u really have a problem wif your mic. Dont hesitate to tell him u r already trying your darneddess best to make his mic system sound good even when its obviously a piece of crap.
  3. listen to your other members more so u can kay kay it through even when trouble arises.
  4. be flexible to any possible emergencies, eg. teammates start to sing in Hindi when its blatantly Chinese.
  5. Don't, i repeat, DON'T show it on your face even if smthg goes wrong. there's a chance that the entire audience is a bunch of nincompoops and they didnt even realise that smthg's gone wrong. Smile and go with the flow.
  6. Last but the very very most important thing: KNOW YOUR SCORES AT THE BACK OF YOUR HAND! - best if u know it well enuf to sing it backwards in other languages apart from the default one. Eg. Latin songs sung in Maori speak, backwards.
  7. if nervous, identify what makes u so, and distract youself from it. Best if u focus on your song dynamics and other important stuff so u dont have the space to think abt anything else.

At the end of the day, i wanna say im really grateful to the following people:

  • all my friends that turned up: Wanling, Pear, Qianfu, Esther, Jer and his friend, Amos (both who came to NUS munchie monkey all the way from Hougang just to hear me sing).
  • my beloved seniors at Reso, like Derek, Davina and Charmaine who rendered lotsa precious help. Special mentions to Jeremy who stayed with us and helped us till 1030 at night to finetune Dreaming of U which resulted in a beautiful duet at the end bet. me n Yani.
  • Yani, Azi, Suhui, Weili and Michael, i really love singing with you guys! One helluva fun group of people to sing with! Thanks a gazillion for all the time n effort u put in. Let's work tgr again, shall we?:)
  • Yani, Andrew, Derek, thanks for the very entertaining post-gig dinner at munchie. im entertained. "VJ framed up the balls David Beckham gave. He even signed upon it!"
  • As well as friends whom i msged to come, didnt come, and didnt even have the courtesy of replying. (You have missed the perfect chance to hear me sing a sexy song sexily. Neh-neh-ni-pu-pu, its your loss, darling.)

yesterday was valentine's day, and i still havent found my extremely elusive Prince Charming. but i ain't a wee bit sad, coz im entitled to ogle at all the macho-looking hunks that i see around! so what's there to complain about? life's fair. hahaha. And im happy just to have all my friends around me in and out of school.
And to top it up, me and my 4 other galpals in my nj clique received bouquets from a certain Derek Sum. hmmm i really appreciate that lovely gesture, which once again reminds me that im a gir,l and that im entitled to totally unexpected but pleasant surprises from time to time!

Attended Reso practice at 6, which ended later than expected coz it was pretty bad the way we heard it. So i didnt meet up with wanling n co. in the end - my mum doesnt like me home late esp on wkdays. But somehow, i still did manage to meet some friends for a very short coffee session before heading home. Simple way to pass my day, but im happy coz at least im doing wad i want to do instead of wad i HAVE to do.

I've watched 2 movies within 2 days this week: Dick n Jane on thursday with yaremy, van and her bf; and my long-awaited Memoirs with ling on FRiday! Was tad disappointed that they tweaked the details of Memoirs abit though...but i understand why - the movie would have lasted 10hrs if every detail of the book were to be put on film. But what i DONT understand, is how both movie outings can be so damned suayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!! I kept having to run all over town to find the movie i want and the timings they give online are always wrong!!! Blast yahoo for the very inaccurate information - which made me run from cinema to cinema just to get disappointed.

Oughta be shot. *piang!!*
