Was (still) working on my term paper, when my cousin approached me with the following Pri 6 maths question:
Which of the following numbers should come next?
b) 4
c) 8
d) 0
Have fun trying to get the answer. The logic behind it is frustratingly pathetic.
(FYI, this is a question from one of the top schools.)
At this point, im already very, very tired, but am too stressed up over my barely completed essays, the impending deadlines and other random thoughts to sleep. And Coldplay's Fix You comes to mind, probably because it describes my predicament so well.
When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just watch you're worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I
Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Whoever or whatever's that 'I', i sure hope he/she/it fixes me soon. Real soon.
Will somebody just shoot me now?
In the head pls.
Had alot of fun at Clarke Quay!
My role in the event was actually kacang-putih-small, but just being part of it and enjoying the positive vibes, sounds and sights were enough to keep me hyped up the entire evening. My job was pretty simple - don the cute uniform and hand out the programme booklets for the River Festival to anyone and everyone in sight to inform them about the event.
Made new friends. Most of them were a couple of yrs my junior, but i cld mingle with them pretty well (Save for a very, very rude punk whom i'd push into the river if i cld. Decided to ignore him because he's still young, brain still not fully developed yet, only capable of talking rubbish), which was surprising coz it wasn't as if i knew them at all; some of them i only met prior to the event itself. But everyone was talking to everybody else, perhaps by the very fact that we were all volunteering for a common event and were all out to have fun. The feeling was really good!
The bands playing at the launch party were AWESOME. All famous acts!
Found myself missing my two besties so much...wished xw and shan were there to check out the bands with me, but now that one's working her a**e off and the other's flown off to the UK, i cldn't help but feel a little lonely at times during the evening=(
Out of the blue, i decided to call this old friend of mine coz she's probably the only other friend i know who'd be eager to join me at Clarke Quay. And guess what. SHE WAS THERE TOO! Only catch is, she just got attached and i caught her while she was out on a rendevous with her beau:p
Damn embarrassing.
Tried to find an excuse to run, but was too late - she insisted i met up with her-.-
Seriously, tio bei pio also not that heng lor!
Chatted with her for a while by the river - which btw, is a lovely place to sit down and chill out to the music with a cuppa at hand and a pal by your side=) Lots of things happened to her, most of them really good, so im happy for her!
By chance, i found out that her bf was involved in both yrs' CAC+US (Apparently he was part of the engrg crew who made the gorgeous backdrops) in which i sang in!
To this, an unforgettable one-liner from my Sec 1 Geography teacher best sums up my sentiments...
"Im not trying to exaggerate, but Singapore is really bi-sai small!"
Today was my 2nd lesson with the pri 2 kids.
Consistent with my prediction, this week was better than the last. I managed to calm down a couple of hyperactive boys with alot of positive psychology - praises and promises of more points (we're practising a points-rewards system, with the boys pitting themselves against the girls). Well it's not like im being biased, but really. Boys are such a handful! Like, here i am trying to teach them how to sing, and there they are playing catching and some of them secretly copying down the lyrics from the lyrics sheets thinking that i can't see them. (Like...diao. I may be short, but i am not blind, can.) It's always interesting to think abt what's going on in their little unpredictable minds. Thank goodness they thrive on competition, so im just gonna milk that tactic for all it's worth. Until some smart aleck exposes my devious scheme and i've got to think of a new one, that is.
It's funny to observe too, how they can be so garang at the start of the lesson...
"We are going to win the girls!" (with looooads of conviction)
and so whiny by the end...
"Miss JY, why the girls always get so many points one...not fair..." (complete with whiny voices and pouty, frowny faces)
They are simply a heck lot of fun, i tell ya.
Had fun laughing at myself too, as i sang along with them and attempted to throw in lots of exaggerated hand gestures and facial expressions just so they remember the songs better. I wondered if Cal wld die laughing should she ever catch me doing whatever i did. *grins*
By the end of my one-hour lesson, I was drenched in perspiration, eyeliner running, hair messed up, feet aching from the multiple blisters (because i had to put on my heels for that little height advantage)...
But you know what made it all worthwhile at the end of the day?
It was the most notorious boy in class, who had simply refused to cooperate with me during the first lesson and for a good part of the second no matter what i said or did, coming up to me to say,
"Miss JY, i really like to sing that song, can we do that again next week?"
I just couldn't stop smiling after that.
Thank you very much, 观音娘娘。=D
Finally a happy event to blog about.
Attended NUS Dance Blast, and I must say the show's awesome. I loved the music choice (quite a few were from the Step Up 2 soundtrack), the choreography, the energy, the lightings and best of all, the omg-omg-omg costumes. There was quite abit of clothes-layering and a brilliant myriad of colours used (for a particular item there were at least three colours on each of the dancers), which when put together, were definitely eye-catching. An idea for Reso for future performances;)
Saw my hiphop instructor from Danz People in the audience by the way.
And Shaun, in case you're reading this, I must say im totally impressed. Gonna make sure xw and shan stop calling you a himbo from now on. TEACH ME THE HANDSTAND! ( But you could've chosen nicer boxers tho. Ur friend's spongebob one nicer. HAHA!)
Actually, she was right.
I am not as understanding a person as I once thought I was.
I should speak less and listen more...
Feel less and think more...
And the whole point(s) of it all?
1) To acknowledge that im in the wrong.
2) Recognise that I need much more self-control.
3) Firmly stand by my view that i need to treat you better, as much as you need to do me.
I still love you very very much despite all the unhappiness. And I know that you love me in your own ways, albeit quite regimentally (that's why they call it tough love, right?).
But i need you to understand that i cannot be perfect. No one can. If even you can't accept all of me - my strengths AND my faults - how can i even expect that anyone else in the world would?
Once again, I screwed up. BIG TIME.
This time, it's the foreign kid's AEIS application. I forgot to check my mother's email account for the updates in the past two weeks and it's now one day past the deadline for the submission of the supporting documents.
It's all my fault. I am guilty, and I am worried for the poor girl whose quest to study in Singapore might be in jeopardy because of my stupid mistake. I accept full responsibility.
But i must say that I didn't ask to be involved in this whole FUCKING foreign student business too. I HATE IT, if anyone even bothered to ask.
FUCK.
I just hope the kind officers at MOE will be kind and understanding enough to accept the documents and let the poor kid take her entrance examinations so I won't have to live the rest of my life in guilt. I have enough pain and trouble of my own to deal with. I don't need any more of these guilt trips, thank you.
观音娘娘,求求您不要保佑我。求求您保佑可怜的凯熳,请您不要让她因为我的疏忽而活受罪。让她考试吧,求求您了。
Look what i found in my inbox after dinner!
YIPPEE YAI YAY!!!
I wanted to blog about my adventurous Wednesday, which saw me getting out of the house at 7am in the morning (that's the earliest this yr, sorry if some of you do that every week) and dragging my sorry ass home only at 7pm, having travelled to North, South, East and Wesy of Singapore all in a day, BUT. What Am I to You - Norah JonesWhat am I to you
Tell me darling true
To me you are the sea
Vast as you can be
And deep the shade of blue
When you're feeling low
To whom else do you go
See I'd cry if you hurt
I'd give you my last shirt
because I love you so
If my sky should fall
Would you even call?
I've opened up my heart
I never want to part
I'm giving you the ball
When I look in your eyes
I can feel butterflies
I will love you when you're blue
But tell me darling true
What am I to you
Now if my sky should fall
Would you even call
I've opened up my heart
I never want to part
I'm giving you the ball
When I look in your eyes
I can feel the butterflies
But could you find the love in me
Would you carve me in a tree
Don't fill my heart with lies
I will love you when you're blue
But tell me darling true
What am I to you
Down with gastric, am in alot of pain now. Labels: bitter medicine
Kept throwing up every single thing i ate since last night, so technically speaking, im fasting along with all my dear Muslim friends too=P
But sometimes the pain gets so unbearable, i start thinking if im better off dead. Saw the very condescending GP once again, hopefully her medicine works. Pain pain go away...=/
Been checking out the lyrics of the songs im supposed to teach the kids come Wednesday, and i decided to put up the ones for Ben. Just because=) Labels: songs in the headBen, the two of us need look no more
We both found what we were looking for
With a friend to call my own
I'll never be alone
And you my friend will see
You've got a friend in meBen, you're always running here and there
You feel you're not wanted anywhere
If you ever look behind
And don't like what you find
There's something you should know
You've got a place to goI used to say, "I" and "me"
Now it's "us", now it's "we"
I don't listen to a word they say
They don't see you as I do
I wish they would try to
I'm sure they'd think again

just the other day, i was on my way to school when i saw this cute baby girl in a pram. From what i saw, she didn't seem to be any older than 12mths. Was reading my notes at the time, when out of the corner of my eye, i saw the baby flip onto her tummy and slip out from under the handle bar! So instinctively, i reached out to grab hold of her before anything happened. You'd think i just saved the baby girl from getting injured right? Labels: random bits of randomness
WRONG.
It turned out SHE COULD WALK! Man, she started tottering around her pram and stared at me (probably won, much to the amusement of her mum and her grandmother who were watching.
Neh neh.
People have told me that it's too darned easy to pull a trick on me because im too trusting, but never in my life would i imagine that i'd be hoodwinked by a thumb-sucking BABY! My fondness for the little tykes are making me stupid, i swear. Grrr.
Life makes a fool out of you once in a while to keep you from thinking you're too smart for the world, i guess. haha
The more i know, the more my heart cries.
“不要打架,不要打架, 不要打架(了)。。。”
Am back in the central lib again. Have sh*tloads of work because of a presentation next week, and though it's pathetic, the best way to overcome is to face it, and get the job properly done ASAP. Labels: whine-nannigans and shennanigans
*pat on my own back for the good work attitude* haha.
Lately i've noticed many angsty blog posts around (i have my fair share too, am human afterall). I guess it's the stress, fatigue and lack of sleep that's causing the (collective) negative aura to spread, but hey. If you can't change the circumstances, change the way you see things. Afterall, your life is yours to lead. If you're not gonna find ways to make your own life happier for yourself, then nobody would.
Sure, you can count on ur friends to back you up when u need the support, but don't forget that your friends might need some cheering up themselves. Sometimes, rather than ruminate over your own misery and get angsty, you might just feel better abt yourself being of help to your friends instead of waiting for them to reach out to you. For starters, being a little more generous with compliments helps. But more of that later. Derek once said this to me in one of our msn conversations, "Think not of what others can do for you, but what you can do for others." (just shows how sweet Mr Foo can be, doesn't it=)) And it has helped me pull through some of my darkest moments thus far, that's why i choose to believe in it. Thanks Derek, for having given this bimbo some words of wisdom to live by=)
It isn't too difficult to change your perspectives. Start with little things. Back to the example of paying others compliments. Say, if you happen to see ur parents/siblings in the living room before you leave the house, try telling them this (it helps if you smile) , 'Hey mum/dad/sis/bro, you look good today.' =)))
To be honest, nothing much will happen. They won't rush over to hug you, give you their share of breakfast or give you more pocket money just because you've just said something nice to them. But one thing's for sure. They're definitely gonna feel better than if you said nothing at all (Ronan Keating comes to mind). If you're lucky, they'll repay the compliment or give you a smile to brighten up your day (i mean, you'd rather they sulked at you meh?). But even if you don't get anything in return, take heart in the fact that u've just made somebody else's day better, and therefore have all the reasons to feel good about yourself!=)
And at this point, i'd like to congratulate everyone for surviving the past 4 weeks of hell, esp if you're still schooling...but hey this goes out to my working and slacking friends too! It hasn't been easy for you i understand, but the fact that you've already made it so far just means you can take hardships better than, if not as well as you thought you cld at the beginning of the sem. So give yourselves a pat on ur backs!
Before i continue with my work, just like to say that if ever anyone of my friends feel bored, sleepy, angry, sad (or better still, happy) and you just want to send out a random msg but dunno who to send it to, try my number. Chances are, busy as i am, i'd enjoy reading your random msgs as much as i enjoy singing random songs and saying random stupid things that don't reflect well on my intelligence, because i need cheering up from all my (can be very dry sometimes) readings too!
Lastly, a video to get you in the mood for whatever you'd be doing after you survive my long-winded post. Enjoy...and do your work alr!=P
Many thanks to JE and Daniel for coming over to disturb me in the library. Made my day!=) Labels: random bits of randomness

Ewwwwwwwwwwww.
I've been shortlisted to be an F1 Race Ambassador! Labels: whine-nannigans and shennanigans
And if nothing goes wrong, I'll be teaching vocals to primary two kids every Weds too.
Not forgetting the OCS gig on the 20th (right smack in the middle of the F1 weekend), which translates to spending at least 4 other evenings to sing instead of study.
I've got tons and tons of readings due but yet to be done, plus tons and tons more coming up in the following weeks, what with 2 presentations, 2 mid-terms and 3 essays due two weeks after the F1 weekend.
I believe im taking the right steps but at the same time, im not sure if a yr 4 student should take up so many commitments when she shld've been cutting down on them instead. Hmmm... 0_o
I hope im tough enough to survive the next 5 weeks.
Bestie's going away very soon and im oh-so-busy with school i can't even fork out time to hang out with her before she does. Sometimes i wonder if it's my fault that i can't seem to do anything for the ones i love, i can't seem to do the right things to make them happy, try as hard as i might. I used to be able to do that so well... and it gave me a reason to smile whenever i managed to cheer up the sad and angry ppl around me. Labels: whine-nannigans and shennanigans
Lately however, rather than making others happy, i manage to get some of them angry and upset instead. Worse, being me i stupidly get affected and become such a self-absorbed sorry ass myself. I wonder why. Is it me who's becoming more inept, or is the negativity that's been spreading around proving too much for me to handle? Have i been deceiving myself too much with the positivity to come to terms with the fact that life can never be as rosy as i imagine it to be?
I don't know.
Finally found the Lust. Caution movie clip that featured the song i was talking about the other time. They've disabled the embedding function for this clip, but it has Eng subs!=D Labels: Sounds and Sights
Just a little nugget about the actress: She wasn't allowed to shave her pits for months because in those days, the women didn't. *Ewwwww* Heard she cried because of it...Poor thing=P
